I have started a project with 3 companions. This project is involving changing the environment of a certain place using a soundscape. We’ve chosen to use the IR camera and Depht sensor from a Microsoft Kinect to make this work. The plan is to record when people walk in and out through the environment, and to track where people are located within that environment.
Our first goal is to program the kinect to be able to make these readings. For this we are using Max/MSP/Jitter 6 and the free kinect externa jitter object to import feed and control several options the kinect can use. This external object can be downloaded here!
The image below shows a simple way to split the area of the room in to 3 zones. These 3 zones are currently connected to 3 different audio files in a different patch. As you can se below, zones the camera register me in sends out a zero value to trig the audio corresponding to it’s zone. Zones that doesn’t register my heat signature sends out a 1 which tells the mixing patch to fade down the audio file connected to that zone.
Using these parameters the soundscape will evolve depending on the amount of people occupying the space. I will record more in detail as this project progresses in time!
A lot of projects that were planned to take place this autumn has been put on ice for several reasons. First out was the recording of Signo Rojos new EP due early 2012, this has been put on hold because of they’re deal with the german label Droehnhaus. Good news is that they will release the EP halfway through 2012! The plans for the EP right now is to re-record everything to add additional new songs.
If everything goes as planned the recordings will resume late january – early february 2012! As last time there will be studio diaries with sneak peaks of the recording sessions! So get excited for 2012 and the new Signo Rojo album! In the meantime check out there 2011 promo album
Recarding my own little projects most of them has been delayed because of the new Pro tools update. A month after ordering Pro tools 10 I’m still waiting for my copy to arrive. I will try and resume this as soon as possible when i get my hands on it!
